A Letter to you from Meredith Bowen

Dear Battle Creek Girls’ Chorus members,

Hello!  In case you haven’t met me yet, my name is Meredith Bowen and I am the new director of the Battle Creek Girls’ Chorus.  I’m so glad to have the chance to work with all of you!  I offer a heartfelt thanks to those of you who were at my audition – it was just an example of how our year will progress.

I’m sure you are sad to see Mr. C leave after having worked with him for so many years. He has done a remarkable job with the Girls’ choruses and we certainly won’t forget him or what he taught you.  But every ending is also the beginning of something new. You may be a bit nervous that you won’t have as much fun with me as you did with Mr. C -- I am not very good at Kermit the Frog voices, but I can promise that you will be challenged in new ways, and that rehearsals will still be fun and musically demanding.  Please feel free to come to me when you have questions and concerns – we will work together to make this the best program possible.

We will in many ways continue on the path that Mr. C has set for you.  We will be keeping the same choir names, and we’ll be singing in the same places.  We will even sing some of the same music – I’m sure you would like to continue singing the Blessing song you did so beautifully at your concert, and we will.  We’ll also continue going on tours. 

What will change a bit is the type of music we do and your stage presence.  I’d like us to explore different kinds of music and incorporate more excitement and movement into your singing. 

Another thing that will likely change is the schedule.  We are looking at condensing the schedule and our goal is to make it more workable for everyone involved. There will be more details about that later.

Mr. C and I will both be at the workshop on July 21, where I will have the opportunity to hear you and the new singers who want to join the choirs.  It will be our first real opportunity to work together and I am greatly anticipating it.

If you are reading this letter and you want to become a Girls’ Chorus member, please contact the Music Center for information regarding the Workshop that runs July 21 – 24 or other opportunities to join the chorus.  I’m interested in meeting you if you are a girl in elementary through high school and you love to sing. 

I am so looking forward to working with you this season -- I am certain that we have a terrific time as we explore new musical landscapes together.
