BATTLE CREEK GIRLS CHORUS
The Battle
Creek Girls’ Chorus is over 100 girls and young women, grades
3-12, from throughout south central lower Michigan in 10 public
and private school systems. While participating in any of the five
ensembles in the organization the girls receive extensive training
in music theory and vocal technique. Our concert year consists of
our local series, private performances, and frequent appearances
with the Battle Creek Boychoir and the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra.
As a touring ensemble
we perform throughout Battle Creek and the surrounding area. In
addition, our annual performance tours take us to places such as
Toronto, Washington D. C., Cincinnati, St. Louis, and New York.
The Girls’ Chorus has traveled to England twice, in 2001 and
2005, both times participating in the Shrewsbury International Music
Festival.
The first compact disc
of Sir David Willcocks’ The Glories of Shakespeare conducted
by the composer was released in February of 2001 as a joint project
of the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, Boychoir, and Girls’
Chorus and includes an interactive CD ROM.
The Battle Creek Girls’
Chorus is a program of the Music Center of South Central Michigan,
which also includes the Battle Creek Boychoir, Community Chorus,
Community Music School, IMPACT Program, and Symphony Orchestra.
