Music inspired by art is the theme of the season opening concert. Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition conjures a gallery of Russian images from grand beauty to exquisite delicacy. Then acclaimed saxophonist Joe Lulloff joins the orchestra for 60’s-flavored jazz in “Escapades,” from the John Williams soundtrack to the Steven Spielberg thriller Catch Me If You Can.

Madame Butterfly
On Saturday, November 15, Puccini’s beloved and ever-popular opera “Madame Butterfly.” Set in 1890’s Nagasaki, this tragic tale of innocence betrayed features the famous soprano role of Cio-Cio-San, the young Japanese bride who vainly awaits the return of husband, an American naval officer, whose child she bore. This will be a semi-staged production of the opera.
