Dear Singers,

Coming up soon is our final concert of the 2007-2008 season, Pop Into Spring. This light and fun show will feature special guests the Lakeview Spartanaire showchoir. The Community Chorus will sing such favorites as Lullaby on Broadway, Sentimental Journey, and Someone To Watch Over Me. We’ll also sing a special memorial when we present What a Wonderful World in memory of the Choruses long time friend Deb Diamond. It’s going to be a great concert! If you’re not singing this show, be sure to come see it at 3:00 on Sunday, May 18th at the Lakeview “Black Box” Theater at the new high school just off Helmer Road. Tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for students/seniors in advance, $2 more at the door.

Normally at this time of year I send out a letter that wraps up everything we’ve done this year and looks ahead to the next season. Well, I’m not quite ready to do that. Why? Because we are still in need of a new Music Director for you for next year (and beyond). Ms. Meredith Bowen (no relation to the Pennfield HS choir director) has accepted a position to direct the Girls’ Chorus after a rather long process of auditions and interviews. I’m truly excited both for her and for the Girls’ Chorus. However, we are still looking for YOUR next director! Originally this was a combined position, and now it is split into two separate jobs. This allows us a great opportunity to find the best possible director for each program. We have done that for the GC, and are reposting the job for the CC alone. Unfortunately this also means we will have a couple more nights of auditions. So, please save the dates! Tuesday, May 20th and Tuesday, May 27th, we will have more candidates come in and audition for you. PLEASE COME TO THE MUSIC CENTER on those nights so you can have a voice in the process, and of course so the candidates have a choir with which to work! We’ll begin at the regular time (7:00) and plan to go for two hours, with multiple candidates each night. The extra time will be worth it!

Also, the Girls’ Chorus will present its final concert in Battle Creek under my direction on Friday, May 30th at 7:30 p.m. at St. Thomas. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students/seniors. This is an “off season” concert entitled “Beautiful Evening.” This is not part of our regular subscription series, and therefore the different price.

Finally, there is going to be a “send off” PARTY after our May 18th concert. The party will be at Carol MacKenzie’s house in Marshall. In addition to celebrating the end of a successful season, this will be a bon voyage party for Abbi and me. Please contact Carol directly for more information at 789-8000.

So, in summary, here’s the news:
Sunday, May 18th, 3:00 Pop Into Spring LHS Black Box
Sunday, May 18th, evening PARTY Carol’s House
Tuesday, May 20th, 7:00 Candidate Aud. Music Center
Tuesday, May 27th, 7:00 Candidate Aud. Music Center
Friday, May 30th, 7:30 Beautiful Evening St. Thomas
