Meet Douglas Rose

Douglas Rose is Director of Choral Music at Albion College. Dr. Rose received undergraduate degrees in music (vocal performance) and music education from Memorial University of Newfoundland and master’s degrees in choral conducting and religion from Yale University. In 1992, he completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at State University of New York at Stony Brook. Before accepting his present position at Albion College, he taught at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia and Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.

As a professional singer, Dr. Rose has been a member of the Elmer Iseler Singers, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, and the Robert Shaw Festival Singers. He has received numerous scholarships, awards and distinctions including a grant for advanced conducting studies awarded by the Canada Council, and a “Teacher of the Year” award by Albion College. Dr. Rose is active throughout the state as an adjudicator and a clinician. He has also been contracted for conducting engagements in Canada by choral federations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Ontario and in England, where he conducted a program featuring the Choirs and Orchestra of the University of Portsmouth.
