Share-A-Thon
Festival 2008!
THANK
YOU!!
Over 200 performers participated in three Community Music School
Share-A-Thon Festivals March 8 and 15. All three events featured
private lessons students from most of the Community Music School's
studios. CMS-Hastings Share-A-Thon also featured the Hastings
Kids Choir. The new CMS-Marshall and CMS-Albion shared a Share-A-Thon
at Wesley Chapel on the Albion College campus. Thirty-six performers
participated. Battle Creek's Share-A-Thon hosted an 'Arts Bazaar'
as well as performances, with area nonprofit arts organizations
displaying their 'wares.' Cuppy's Coffee and More and Dunkin'
Donuts provided yummy refreshments. Masteller Music graced all
three events with the ever-popular Instrument Petting Zoo.
All funds
from Share-A-Thon go to the Community Music School's financial
aid prigram, giving aid to families under $40,000 annual income.
Many families would not be able to participate otherwise. Donations
are still coming in for the events. If you have not turned yours
in, please do so by the end of this month.
Many thanks
to all performers, visitors, displayers, teachers, and donors
for your part in Share-A-Thon Festival 2008!
Together we can accomplish more, and accomplish it better!

CMS
Music Festival
The
Community Music School-Hastings is holding its 4th Annual Music
Festival on Saturday, April 26th at the First United Methodist
Church. Modeled after Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association’s
Solo and Ensemble and Piano Achievement testing, instructors Melissa
Risk and Holly Bolthouse created the Festival in 2005. Vocal,
strings, guitar, brass, woodwind, and piano students are invited
to perform a solo and receive coaching and suggestions from an
adjudicator. In addition to their solo, piano students will perform
technical exercises and take a theory test. The scores for all
areas will be rated by the adjudicator, and students can earn
medals for I and II division rating. All students will receive
a certificate of participation.
Last
year over 60 piano, clarinet, voice and guitar students participated
in the event. Students who wish to participate need to sign up
at the CMS-H (269 948-9441) office by March 31st. Students from
all four Community Music School locations - Albion, Battle Creek,
Hastings, and Marshall, are invited to participate. Family members
of participants are encouraged to attend with their child.

Musician
Achievement Program
Community
Music School-Hastings offers a chance for students to strive for
excellence on their instruments in the Musician Achievement Program.
This program was created by Holly Bolthouse, a piano instructor
at the CMS. Students and teachers work together to outline goals
for the school year. Examples of the goals are: finish a method
or theory book, practice 30 minutes a day, play for church services
or community events, participate in an adjudicatedmusic event,
research a composer, play in a recital, learn 5 pieces on your
own. MAP allows student to be more actively involved in planning
and reaching their musical growth.
MAP is offered
to all Hastings area private lesson students on all instruments
for a nominal fee. Runs September through mid-May, 2008. Contact
the CMS-Hastings office at 269.948.9441 for more details.
