megan mccormick boyd selected as the next director for the battle Creek boychoir

The Music Center has announced the appointment of a new music director of the Battle Creek Boychoir. Chosen through a national search, Megan McCormick Boyd will begin her tenure with the highly regarded touring choir on August 1. Boyd succeeds Brooks Grantier, who is retiring after 31 years with the boychoir.

Consisting of 20 to 30 boys age 8 to 14, the Boychoir has earned audience and critical praise performing in nine countries and 24 states. Performing as a solo group or with an orchestra, the choir sings classical, folk and contemporary music from around the world, in its original languages. Since its founding in 1980, the Boychoir has sung at such prestigious venues as Englands Westminster Abbey, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, and the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. The Boychoir will perform in Paris, France, in the spring of 2011.

Boyd holds a bachelors degree with honors in music education and voice performance from Boston University. For the past five years, she has directed youth choirs in North Carolina, including Millbrook High School in Raleigh and the Durham School of Music. She will combine the Boychoir position with post-graduate studies at Michigan State University.

Music Center Artistic Director Anne Harrigan said, " The search committee was unanimous in selecting Megan. She had a brilliant audition and instant chemstry with the boys and an impressive record of success with her previous positions. We are confident that she will build on the tradition of excellence her predecessor, Brooks Grantier, has established."

Boyd said: " "I am thrilled to be joining The Music Center team in Battle Creek. I look forward to a productive and exciting concert season with the Battle Creek Boychoir."
