Join the Boychoir

The Boychoir welcomes new singers! Come to our Next Open House Thursday, September 25, at 7:00 PM at the Music Center Building on the KCC Campus

At the Open House, you’ll learn about the program, and its unique and stimulating opportunities.

For most young men, the Prep Class is the first BCB experience.  Prep Classes begin twice yearly.
     * For those who audition in the spring, we hold our July Workshop in mid-summer, and continue in the fall.
     * For those who audition in winter, our Prep Class begins in mid-February.

Most beginning members of the group are in (or finishing) 2nd or 3rd grade, but those in 4th grade are not uncommon, and we have had, on occasion,  some very successful 1st graders.

In the Prep Class, you will learn:

  • Posture and breathing for singing
  • Making the sound – high notes, low notes, and accurate pitch-matching
  • Making the musical phrase – singing musical lines.
  • Reading the notes on the staff, and writing them.
  • Reading and performing rhythm in steady time.
  • First steps toward performance, as you sing with the full choir near the end of the term.

The Prep Class lasts for one semester.  After that, a singer becomes a a member of the performing choir, working his way through more advanced skills and ever-widening musical experiences, in performance, in travel, in friendship, in acquiring the tools for life-long musical joy.
